Gundam Thunderbolt Season 2 update

Foud most of this over on Gundam Kits collection site, It looks like we have a date for the release of Season 2 of the OVA for Thunderbolt which I cannot sit still and wait for.

I love the Universal Century storylines, but this one is just awesome. Bulky looking mobile suits fighting it out amongst the debris…..But wait, it looks like the battle has moved out of the thunderbolt sector and down to Earth. I’m not sure of all the story particulars, but here in the trailer we can see water and atmosphere something that looks like a Pegasus class Assualt carrier like the Albion from 0083 Stardust Memories.

Thunderbolt Trailer 2

The release dates I’ve found are here

  • Episode 5: Friday, March 24, 2017
  • Episode 6: Friday, April 28, 2017
  • Episode 7: Wednesday, May 31, 2017
  • Episode 8: Friday, June 30, 2017

So it looks like our 2 aces will continue to fight it out, Io Flemming will have his new Gundam RX-78 Atlas which is a weird design but it has a rail gun and who doesn’t like a mobile suit sporting a ridiculously overpowered weapon. Darryl Lorenz is back, and his is one I didn’t realise was from this part of the UC, the MS 04 ACGUY which is an amphibious type suit. Hopefully since the Gundam is capable of water battle also we are going to see some amazing fight scenes.

This is going to be another epic 4 part OVA to blow your mind. Keep an eye out for more trailers, and hopefully the Jazz soundtrack will be back.

More to come when I find it guys! Enjoy.

Anime Review: Gundam The Origin OVA

This Anime has just finished it’s First Arc in December 2016, amazingly I wasn’t aware it was going to go further then 4 Episodes. The Unfortunate part though however is that we now have to wait nearly 12 months before the 2nd arc is going to pick up, The Battle of Loum.

As a quick overview of the first few episodes as I don’t want to spoil it all for you, Go watch it on the Gundam youtube channel.

Gundam The Origin, is a prequel to the original Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam 0079. It sides heavily with the Zeons at the first 2 to 3 episodes and focuses on Casval Rem Deikun…..And I hear you asking WHO??

That would be the boy on the left, and his sister Artesia on the right. You’d know them better as Char Aznable and Sayla from the original Gundam.

So in these 4 OVA’s we get the original story of what happened to lead to the one year war of 0079. It’s great to see it in so much detail and learn all about what happened, I had so many questions when watching the Anime. This has answered most of them!

You’ll also run into other characters like Ramba Ral, Tem Ray and Amuro.

The first episode wasn’t as interesting as I thought, and episode 2 wasn’t much better. Though it explains the name changes as we know that Char has had many names over the Gundam series. Finally in Episode 3 this happens and you reliase how he got the name Char!

That’s right, basically a duplicate character with different eye colour that he switches with to throw off the Zabi Family pursuing him, and he ends up enrolling in the Military academy they run right under their noses.

We can see here in these pictures, he ends up wearing glasses to hide his eyes, only to have someone give him his famous visor to hide them. He also befriends Garma Zabi, the youngest of the Zabi bloodline.

Episode 3 is way more action packed then the first 2 combined, and still has a lot of plot in it. It basically gives you the reason for the uprising by the colonies, but also the hidden agenda’s of others in the background. We also get our first look at Mobile Workers, the precursors to Mobile suits. The below isn’t that, but its the first shot of a mobile suit being constructed in the series.

At the start of Episode 4, you see Char being booted out from the academy and headed for Earth…thinking WTF?? how is the main character getting tossed aside? But in doing so it reveals he had a hand working in Mobile use technologies for Zeonic company and co. Also on Earth he meets someone very important to the series….

After an escape back to space, we get more of the EFSF side, and the mobile suits being developed there, we don’t actually get to see the very first Gundam… But we do get Amuro’s father Tem Ray and Anaheim Electronics and their involvement including the Early type Guncannon. I love that colour scheme, the Revive HG kit should have come in that colour scheme!

Dr Minovsky, yes the inventor of the particle or discoverer, is going to defect and help the EFSF apparently. They’re is a rescue/exchange menat to happen which Zeon know all about as we get a little exchange between what is anew design to me, the Bugu and a few Zaku I’s heading to a meeting point across the moon.

They’re actually Ramba Ral, and the Tri-Stars!!! if you don’t know who they are, please go watch the original series now. They’re heading to meet “him” also known as that “Red Bastard”..Yep you guessed it.

Char in his Zaku I, in his full Colors. So this team of super stars headed to a meeting point….That pretty much spells disaster for the exchange about to happen. I won’t go into too much detail but the EFSF dispatch the “Iron Cavalry” to help cover them. Once they arrive on the scene they take action to defend the car and fighters in spectacular fashion.

I loved this scene, especially how certain they are that 12 Guncannons should be enough to deal with 4-5 zeon suits…Yeah it’s all down hill from there.

I beg you to go and watch this series, support it by buying the HG Origin kits as that is how the series get made, Bandai get the $$$ through the merchandise. Most of the time I would say nah forget it….but The Gundam franchise is one that is addictive.

Catch ya next time with a Kit update I’m working on, RX-78.2 Gundam Custom colours and weathering.

Gunpla Builders World Cup

So to accompany my last post, there’s this really cool thing that goes along with gunpla. It’s held by bandai and it’s called the GBWC or Gunpla Builders World Cup.

It’s a yearly competition held around August with the finals being held in Japan in December. In countries around the world there will be a competition you can enter your build into and compete for 1st, 2nd or 3rd in your category (open, junior etc..) and if you place 1st you get a trip to japan! That’s right, to see how your entry stacks up against the best of the best.

There are rules, only genuine bandai products, certain measurements etc… and the competition is brutal. You may think you’ve got something great and then when you show up….BAM. You think well thank’s for coming. Below are a few pictures as an example of the 2016 entries that caught my eye, A couple of recently made friends from here in australia did really well. Kirin whom I share a love of the Stardust memories 0083 series and the GP01 Gundam Zephyranthes, placed third and Lance placed first for Australia in the open category and did well in Japan.

I must admit, I didn’t originally understand why the guy who won overall did with his entry, and then it was explained to me. He created all the Samurai armor by hand and the diorama is actually meant to mimic a scene from Japanese history where 2 Warriors met on a bridge in Kyoto. Hearing the back story and what the guy went through to make it just shows how  big this hobby is and the depth of thoughts and emotions that go into it.

So if you’re game, take it up and see what you got. If you love a challenge you’re in the right place.

My new obsession: Gunpla

Some will be going wow yeah going over your older posts it makes sense, others will be saying….What the hell is a gunpla?

Gunpla is just a name for Gundam Plastic models, manufactured by Bandai in Japan. They’ve been going for over 35 years now and the popularity is only on the rise as far as I can see. A lot of this would have to do with the fact it’s also a hugely popular anime that the kits are based on, and apart from being awesome kits the anime is usually pretty epic.

In 2007 when I was visiting japan i sadly wasn’t into this hobby, I was collecting the metal type figurines of super robots. I didn’t realise these aisles of awesomeness were there.

One major difference I believe with Gunpla compared to any other kit, is Bandai’s polycaps. They make it almost needless to use Glue on these kits. You can use the nippers or a knife to cut the puts out and assemble.

So let’s have a quick look at the different scales and grades of kits you have.

SD – Super Deformed. These are the cute bobble headed looking kits. This was my first kit, not very details but fun to put together and a nice easy one to start.

HG – High Grade – 1/144 scale – These kits are the bread and butter of the line up. Most kits will be released in this line in some form with any given amount of variations. These kits are detailed enough, still being fun to build (most of the time unless you get sticker hell) and have a good amount of colour separation without needing to be painted compared to much older kits which I personally haven’t used but have been told weren’t as nice. The current line of kits include things like a shield, rifle or other weapons.

RG – Real Grade – 1/144 scale – This scale is a great one, the cheaper options and size of the HG, whilst having gimmicks and the inner frames of the MG lines. Real grade is just that, It’s bring the mobile suits to real life. Highly detailed and articulated, more accurate colours like multiple shades of white or grey from panel to panel. Some can be finnicky from reviews I’ve read, but overall a great line to get into.

MG – Mastergrade – 1/100 scale – These are highly detailed kits usually including a few to tonnes of accessories. Unlike the previous kits they come with an inner frame, which you assemble and then mount the armor onto. You’ll notice that some kits have a 2.0 marking on them and this is the 2nd run of the kit with improvements to articulation or other fixes.

REBORN 100 – This is a more recent line from Bandai, and features mobile suits you wouldn’t usually see in a 1/100 scale. It’s not far in with only the 6th kit just being released. The main difference is you get the scale and alot of detail, without the inner frame which would be an expensive part of the kit. So far sales seem good and the line is receiving support as it has great kits you don’t usually see getting some love like the recent Bawoo from Zeta Gundam.

PG – Perfect Grade – 1/60 scale – This is the top echelon of Gunpla kits. Much larger scale, but much much more detail. I am yet to attempt one of these kits myself, they are pricey but worth it from what I’ve seen. There aren’t many of them, but usually the most popular hero suits are the ones to get it like the original RX-78.2 Gundam, the Astray Gundam or the 00 Raiser Gundam from Gundam 00. These kits are highly detailed, articulated and beautiful to see. They have tonnes of weapons, and things like LED’s you can install.

Here is a picture I found on the net, of the Grandaddy gundam RX-78 in most of the scales.

scale photo.png

I haven’t mentioned the largest one yet but the 1/48 scale is a mega size. There aren’t many of those released and from what I’ve seen about them in reviews they are a giant HG when assembling.

There is so much you can do with this hobby, from modification and scratch building, to airbrushing (which I have just got setup) or just assemble from the box and glance at the fantastic work you’ve just done.

I highly recommend this to anyone of any age, go to your local hobby store and check out what they have, there is a design to catch anyones eye.

Till next time, Catchya!

Guyver: Bio Boosted Armor

You know those fond memories you have of watching things from when you were a kid? I have tonnes of those as I loved the weekly trips to the rental shop with my parents (kids be screaming, what you talking about! lol)

But back in the day, there was no netflix, internet speeds for most were dial up and terrible so torrenting etc… wasn’t really an option and DVD wasn’t around. So VHS tapes were the rage. I got into most shows I like today by seeing early anime without realising it and I think I’ve mentioned this before. But I digress, Guyver the anime is a fun show but I’d never heard of it till 8 years ago or so and picked up the DVD boxset on a work trip when I just happened by a pop culture store that had it. I’d always thought it was just an american film I’d seen when I was a kid.

Happily though it is another Japanese Manga that spawned Anime’s, Ova’s and movies.

The premise is this, kid in the  manga/series stumbles across a top secret alien weapon and it activates. Transforming him into the Guyver, a soldier wearing a high tech bio armor with incredible agility, speed, strength and weaponry.

In the first film I ever saw as a kid it was actually Mark Hamill this happened to, and he then fought off the evil corporation trying to get it back and their hoard of alien soldiers called Zoanoids. Basically creatures resembling animals etc… here but larger grotesque versions.

The second film picked up sometime after (no Mark Hamill) living a life of solitude as the armor seems to be causing a lot of social issues as he is often out at night, hunting criminals and killing them. There is more explanations in this film helping you to understand where it came from.

The manga that spawned it all started in 1985! and is currently still running though I’m not sure how frequent the releases are.

The Anime was probably closer obviously to the manga storyline, and actually had 3 Guyvers in it, which obviously makes for a huge amount of fun in the combat sections.

This was a quick trip down memory lane, I’m currently 5 episodes into the anime and loving it. I’m sure I’ll have no trouble polishing off the rest in no time.

I Highly recommend getting out there and finding it for yourself! I have both films and they were easy enough to locate on ebay in a dual pack.

More content coming soon, as I start my Airbrushing of model kits and my 2nd custom kit.

Cheers! Kirkysworld

Gundam Thunderbolt

Been a hell of a long time! But I’m back and this first post is brief, but most of what I will be talking about for a while.

Gundam…A space opera over 30 years old and still going strong as a series today, though with many changes.

This latest series to come up leaked in December but can now be watched for a short time in subtitled format outside of Japan on the youtube Channel.

What is Gundam? Well hard to describe, but think gigantic exo suits or Mobile suits as they are referred to in the series that people use in war. The hero suit is often referred to as a “Gundam” and most often has other names but is usually the most powerful one in the series….Seriously, if I was a pilot and someone said go fight a Gundam….I’d laugh in their face!

This newest series is set in the same period as the original series Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, during the one year war where the peoples of Earth were locked in battle with the peoples of Space who live in Colonies which are a cluster of cylinders called Sides. The instigators of the war are a nation named Zeon, led by the Zabi Family….More info please go watch yourself! despite being 35 years old or so it is brilliant and english dubbed for those not interested in sub titles.

As stated the new series is set during UC0079 (Universal Century) and takes place in the Thunderbolt sector of space, where Side 4 Mua was and is now a shoal zone full of wreckage of ships and colonies etc… The Earth federation forces are fighting with the Zeons. The 2 primary characters and their machines are pictured below.

The ESFS Ace Ensign Lo Flemming in his new FA-78 Gundam will be pitted against Zeon Ace sniper Daryl Lorenz who just happens to have robotic legs (the zeons stationed here are the Living Dead Corp, guessing pilots who have survived major battles) and it seems the two are fated to kill each other from what we see in the first episode.

There will be a new Zaku test type for the enemy but first ep looks like standard equipment only for them. I love the music the Jazz is so invigorating!

Stay tuned for more episodes though they are due for release in 2016 with no schedule as yet,

Anime Review: Gundam Build Fighters

Welcome back! A year later. Buying a house and work are exhausting activities people, try to post more but only worthwhile content like this 🙂

I haven’t seen all of the gundam series available, I’m yet to build a model and I’m no expert on the topic. Now, having said that I can say that this new series is by far the easiest to get into and most exciting of what I have seen so far!

Seems like I’m not the only one from some comments I’ve seen around blogs. This is a different type of series, whilst you’ll find plenty of mobile suit action, exotic landscapes and space battles… It’s all played out using gunpla (Gundam plastic models) in a virtual type setting!

It’s a kind of spin off from another previous series which I am yet to watch, however this is pretty amazing. It’s easy to watch and you just love the characters.

The story centres around 13 year old Sei Lori, whose father was a an almost champion in the gunpla battle championships years before. He lives in a model shop with his mother and while he has excellent building skills, battling is not his specialty.

That is until he meets Reigi, an clueless kid with unbelievable battle skills, match made in heaven! The builder and the warrior, together they go on a journey to be the best.

I have just finished episode 21 of 25 and can’t wait for the end! I’m sure you will all love it as much as I have, the battles the friendships and the complete fandom over mecha!

P.S. This kind of seemed a little like pokemon lol only slightly but see if you think the same 🙂

Enjoy and feel free to leave comments!
