Movies to see in 2011

This morning I woke up with the urge to blog about the upcoming movies that I’m excited for in 2011, naturally all of them are comic based!

So first up around the end of April we have Thor, starring Chris Hemstworth amongst others.

Chris stars as Thor, the Asgardian God of Thunder. Having caused problems for this father, Odin he is banished from Asgard to Earth (Midgard) without his mystical Hammer Mjolnir. In the middle of all of this you also have his half brother Loki, the God of Mischief trying to undermine the Throne.

Green Lantern which I’ve written twice about now before, but another picture just for the fun of it!

Green Lantern is due out June 17th 2011 starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the man without fear. Joining an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns based on the planet Oa.

Next up we have Captain America: The first Avenger, starring Chris Evans (previously Jonny Storm in the Fantastic four movies) Now I’m not quite sure about the casting for this role. I mean Evans does look the part but I feel that he was perfect for the Fantastic four role and played the character well. Where Steve Rogers/Captain America is the polar opposite of The Human Torch.

Captain America is the symbol of hope for the US forces in the 2nd world war. Starting out as a frail and weak enlisted man, Steve Rogers volunteers for the Super soldier program. Which will give him abilities beyond normal men, strength, speed, stamina, agility and durability. However due to an accident he will be the only one to complete the process. Armed with a Costume and Shield he leads the US forces against the nazi war machine and the Red Skull, an evil genius deformed and destined to be his arch nemesis.

I’m pretty excited as Thor and Captain America now lead us up to what we’ve been waiting for, an Avengers Movie!Captain America will release July 2011

On the horizon for 2012 though I’m equally as excited for a new Batman movie. Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale signed on for the 3 movies, and the 3rd should be awesome after the last 2. It is a shame that the Jokers role won’t be reprised by Heath Ledger, he was quite possibly the best actor for the role.

The film has been titled Dark Knight Rising, and is said to have some awesome new villains who will be equally as dark as the 2 previous movies. What I’ve loved about this so far is that Bale is the perfect Batman and the movies have a dark overtone not like some of the previous failures which is more to the comics style, dark and grimy.

They have also started filming a new Judge Dredd film, starring Karl Urban though in place of Stallone (thankfully, he is a great actor but just not suited to the role I believe) Not sure on the new storyline yet but no doubt there will be more new in the near future, here is a picture just released of the new look

and lastly….This is rumoured to be a tv series not a movie and there is a trailer floating around but I don’t know what to make of it! Guess the character?

Its the Blue Beetle, Jaimie Rayes. A teenager finds a blue Scarab one day, he’s the kind of kid that reads comics and dreams of being a super hero, and the day he finds it his dreams come true. The scarab is actually piece of technology that inbeds itself in the back of a host, and forms a living combat suit around you (similar to Guyver:bio boosted armor) however the armor can actually take control here and communicate with the host. Its a powerful weapon, luckily found by a person who would use it for the greater good.

So thats it for now, Its a long wait but will most likely be worth it from the looks of the trailers!
